Nutz Magazine?

31 05 2008

Well, I entered a SURFING magazine contest called “Zine Opportunity” but I don’t think they liked it, so this is the only time it may see the light of day.  Someday I hopefully would like to print out something like this.  Anyways, thanks for being patient.  I’ll be starting up again soon. - Mike

Check out my Duct Tape I made in Photoshop.  I feel so proud.

Guest Strip Project

21 04 2008

Yowza!  I haven’t been here in awhile.  Anybody there?  Maybe I should update this thing more often.

Anyways, I drew a guest comic strip for something called the Guest Strip Project, and all donations go to the Make-A-Wish foundation.

I’m slotted as strip number 7.  Check it out.

Ditch Ink

14 01 2008

Heeeeeey, hey, hey.  What’s crack-a-lackin’?

I wuz cruisin’ around the mean streets of Orlando this past weekend, and unfortunately got arrested for punching Mickey Mouse in the neck.  Ok, I kid, I kid.  Anyways,  I went to that big ole convention center that hosted the notorious SurfExpo, and stumbled upon this really awesome cartoonist named Peter Spacek.  You can check out his stuff at DitchInk.com (click the link, where the links, link).  He specializes in surfing greeting cards and a few other tasty treats.

An Amazing Find

26 12 2007

Life can sometimes utterly amaze you in the most abrupt and strangest of ways.  In this case, it happened to an unnamed friend of mine.

One day his old landlord asked him if he wanted some surf magazines.  Having a few subscriptions already, he understandably said, “no thanks.”  Who needs more junk, right?  Well, his landlord being insistent, asked again a week later.  This time he said, “fine, I’ll take em.”  So the landlord brings over this huge box full of “surf magazines.”  My friend then looks inside the box and finds over 30 old SURFER Magazines dating as far back as 1961!!!  In mint condition!  They were just sitting in a box in his basement for all these years. (For those of you who don’t know, SURFER magazine started in 1960).  What a lucky bastard he is!

Alas, with some pulling and prying, he kindly let me borrow one.  Below is a photocopy I took from the Oct-Nov 1962 issue, vol 3, no.4.    I believe this is the 9th issue of SURFER magazine.  It’s a copy an early Rick Griffin cartoon.   The issue previous had the famous Murphy SURFER cover (he has that one too).
